Travel & Hotel InformationWroclawFrom the beginning of its existence Wroclaw has been the most important city of Lower Silesia. Now it is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Poland. The character of its landscape is created by the Odra River with twelve small islands in the centre of the city and over one hundred bridges. Only Venice and Amsterdam have more bridges than Wroclaw. In its over millennial history Wroclaw has changed its national status several times. The signs of different cultures can be found in its present appearance, architecture but also in the mentality of its citizens. For most of the time it was a German city, but who left their traces here were also Czechs, Slavs, Poles, Jews or even the French. Wroclaw is the only city in the world wherein the population was almost entirely exchanged after World War II and became a mix of Poles coming from different parts of the country. The significant group of people came from Lvov. Since the crash of the communistic system the city authorities keep working on recovering its significance and importance for the region. Nowadays Wroclaw is coming to be a multicultural European metropolis. It is considered to be a meeting place for people, cultures, economies, religions. The city is getting more and more attractive for foreign investments and is also becoming cultural, educational and scientific centre. Hotels Organizers recommend for accommodation following hotels. Some rooms are reserved in these hotels for symposium participant with special rates. Please book the room by yourself and indicate "EMC" to get the rate. To make it easier please fill out hotel reservation form and fax to appriopriate hotel. Number of reserved rooms is limited as well as booking period.
Transport As always we will provide transport for all the participants from pointed hotels to other places of interest during the day and in the evening. If someone by any reason decides to choose another hotel, not from our list, please contact us. You can use also public transport. Trams, buses, and taxis are at your disposal. A one-way tram and bus ticket costs 2 zloty. Fast buses are marked with capital letters (express buses), and tickets for them cost 2,8 zloty. In both cases price does not depend on the distance traveled. Passengers must punch the tickets. Tickets are sold in the newspaper kiosks and ticket-dispenser (but they are not present at every bus-stop). The ten day tickets are also available for 26 zloties, and they do not need to be punched (please ask hotel reception where to buy such tickets). Visas The symposium participants who need any kind of official confirmation in order to get visa or to simplify all the formalities in diplomatic institutions or travel agencies should contact Ms. Anna Kozlowska, secretary@emc.wroc.pl .
